What is the Arabic-speaking region?
The “Arabic-speaking region” is a term that refers to what is often known as the “Arab World.” We believe that the historical influence of the Arabic language on this region has shaped a common social experience. We chose the term Arabic-speaking region to acknowledge that we are gathering queer and trans people from the Arab world, but that while most peoples in this region do identify as Arab, there are also a diverse range of non-Arab ethnic groups who share the same larger social and cultural experience that we’re looking to connect on.
ما تعريف المنطقة الناطقة باللغة العربية؟
“المنطقة الناطقة باللغة العربية” هو مصطلح يرمز إلى المنطقة التي تعرف عادة ” بالمنطقة العربية”. نحن نعتقد أن التأثير التاريخي للغة العربية على هذه المنطقة ساعد في تشكيل التجارب الاجتماعية المشتركة.
قمنا باختيار مصطلح المنطقة الناطقة باللغة العربية كتعبير عن تجمعنا كأشخاص كويريين و عابرين من المنطقة العربية، وعلى الرغم من أن معظم الأشخاص من تلك المنطقة يعرفون أنفسهم كعرب إلا أنه توجد مجموعات متنوعة من الأعراق تتشارك نفس التجارب الاجتماعية و الثقافية و التي نسعى للتواصل معها.
What countries are included in the Arabic-speaking region?
Algeria, Bahrain, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco, Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Tunisia, United Arab Emirates and Yemen are included in the Arabic-speaking region.

الجزائر، البحرين، مصر، العراق، الأردن، الكويت، لبنان، ليبيا، موريتانيا، المغرب، عمان، فلسطين، قطر، السعودية، الصومال، السودان، سوريا، تونس، الإمارات، اليمن كلها بلاد متضمنة في المناطق الناطقة باللغة العربية
Why not use SWANA or MENA?
The terms ”Southwest Asia and North Africa” (SWANA) and “Middle East and North Africa” (MENA) include countries like Türkiye and Iran, which are not included in our group’s demographic.
لماذا لا نستخدم مصطلح "SWANA" أو "MENA"؟
مصطلحي “جنوب غرب آسيا وشمال أفريقيا” (SWANA) و “الشرق الأوسط وشمال أفريقيا” (MENA) يتضمن بلاد مثل تركيا وإيران، وهي بلاد ليست جزء من ديموغرافية مجموعتنا.
Do I have to be Arab to come to Meem?
Meem welcomes all peoples from the Arabic-speaking region, including Arabs, Amazigh, Armenians, Assyrians, Nubians, Kurds, and many more!
هل يجب أن أكون عربي لحضور ميم؟
ميم تدعو أفراد مجتمع الميم من مختلف الأعراق والثقافات النابعة من المناطق الناطقة باللغة العربية وتشمل عرب، أمازيغ، أرمن، اشوريون، نوبيون، أكراد، وغيرهم!
